This morning I was at a loss for an idea, so I turned to yesterday’s work as a jumping off point. Yesterday, I had used a piece of paper as a blotter for the firefly drawing. I thought the accidental marks on the paper might help generate an idea.
I started thinking about making something out of nothing, and I wrote those words in a random curve. This led to the idea of the gears turning, so I placed gears randomly in the drawing until I had filled the whole page. Within a half hour, I had created this post from basically nothing.

That is awesome! Most often when I’m out of ideas, I start pulling things out that I like, and I end up creating something out of nothing as well. I have many projects like that lol. I may not be the most talented in altering things, or scrapbooking, but hey, if I like it, that’s all that matters, right?

Hi Rachel, Yes, I think when it comes to creativity, it’s all about what you enjoy doing.

So true! Very nice. When I think I know what I am going to do, I take notes so I don’t forget. But then once I start on it, it gets changed 2 or 3 times. Most often I go back to what I originally wanted. I am so glad to be following you on this wonderful journey of creativity. It give me so much to look forward to, and I don’t feel too much out of the loop. TFS!

Hi Diana, I know what you mean about changing things. Most of my work goes through multiple changes before it’s finished. But there is no time for that with these quick sketches, which is kind of a nice thing, because there is no second guessing. It comes out the way it wants to come out, with all of its imperfections.

Gears are good right now. Everything has gears on it. I like it.

Hi Melissa, Thanks for your feedback! I’ve always had a fascination with gears and the inner workings of things.

Creating something from nothing can be a real confidence booster as well as a much needed challenge, Tim…almost like returning to the basics.
