How to Make a Monoprint

When I created the mold and deckle for my paper making project, I was left with the glass panels from the frames. I thought this would be a good opportunity to prepare one of those panels for making monoprints.

I simply taped the sharp edges of the glass with masking tape to protect my fingers.

Making a monoprint is simple. Paint the glass with watered down paint, and press a sheet of paper onto the glass to transfer the image. You can use any type of water based paint or ink. For these monoprints I used acrylic paint mixed with water, and I transferred the images onto my hand made paper. Eventually, I plan to make a short video showing the monoprinting process on my Youtube channel.

Monoprints are fun to make because they are very fast to create, and you never know what the results will be. Once they dry, you can draw and paint on top of the prints if you wish.

Last week I mentioned I had a pleasant surprise to report. My new travel theme, patterned paper and embellishments will be coming soon to Michael’s Craft stores, JoAnn Fabric and Crafts stores and many independently owned scrapbooking stores. Here’s a look at the covers of the paper pads from the collection. The papers are printed on both sides, and the Specialty Paper Pad has some metallic, glossy and pearlescent accents. I’m really excited about this new collection!

Seeing Something Again, for the First Time

I’m discovering that one of my favorite parts of creating a picture with black and white line is coloring it. I find it very relaxing. Today, I decided to revisit a past image that hadn’t been colored yet. I’m finding it an enjoyable way to spend my blog time, especially on those days where I just can’t seem to pull an idea together for a new drawing.
