Have you ever had an idea that seemed brilliant at the time of conception, but you eventually abandoned it? Maybe there never seemed to be enough time to work on it. Or perhaps the idea just needed to simmer in the back of your mind until just the right time when you would become ready to open the door again.
A couple of years ago, I had an idea for a greeting card collection called the Smileys.
As I was developing the idea for cards, my mind kept inventing stories about these characters and who they are. I started creating whole story ideas, and I imagined it as an animated television series. I wrote plot synopses for about five or six episodes. I even considered creating episodes for Youtube, because the idea of developing and pitching a series for broadcast television is way beyond my capabilities. I knew it could never come to fruition. But maybe I told myself that, because I knew deep down I didn’t have the passion for the project to devote the time and energy needed to make it happen. The greeting card collection never happened, but the Smileys are still simmering in the back of my mind. Maybe they’re patiently waiting for me to open the door for them again.
