Today’s doodle was inspired by Zendictive’s and Fergiemoto’s posts about Etegami – a Japanese word meaning the combination of pictures and meaningful words.
This is basically what I’ve been trying to do from the beginning with this blog, but the idea of Etegami helped me focus on what the leaf might have to say, rather than trying to impose my own words and feelings onto the leaf. For the record, I’m not as stiff and wrinkled as the leaf I drew this morning, but I am still here, so that’s at least one thing we have in common.
Awesome!
Thanks!
Tim
awesome; you are truely unique in what you do…
bows (~_~) humble
Hi Art, That’s a great compliment. I think we’re all unique and similar at the same time. It’s a matter of trying to become who you really are deep down, and letting that show. Your posts and comments inspire me often. Thanks so much!
Tim
You have such detail in your drawing….always love to see them and ‘feel’ the message you share. Thanks Tim. xo
Hi Jackie, Thank you for the feedback. It feels great to get a response like that.

That’s a gorgeous leaf, Tim! I’m still here too, although I haven’t been for a while! lol Etegami is a brand new word to me and I thank you for sharing it. Your words make me think of Monica’s video that I saw on youtube yesterday…”moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!” I don’t think that’s quite what you had in mind! lol Have a great day, Tim! I hope your busy week is going well! 🙂
Hi Nancy, Yes, etegami is a new word for me, too. That’s funny – I was actually wondering if I could flatten out the leaf by soaking it in water. When I collected it, I intended to press it, but I wasn’t quick enough and it dried out. My week is going well, I’m accomplishing a lot, but there are still so many things to do. Sometimes to satisfy one client you have to make others wait, but at least I seem to be keeping up with one of them.
Tim
Thank goodness we don’t crumble up and disappear as we age, like a leaf does!
Hi Bonnie, Yes, I agree, leaves have a very short life!

Another sketch I love. Dont ask me why, but maybe it is that I like all things nature related. I not yet all wrinkled up, but I am a stiff at times. My kids act like I am not here, I can hear them talking trash, and I yell at them saying “I am still here!”. LOL TFS {{{{luvnhugs}}}}
Hi Diana, That comment made me smile – I’m glad you can laugh at the experience! Hugs back to you.

Tim !!!! This is priceless. It’s absolutely beautiful and a true discription of Etagami. I love it.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a great day :o)
Hi Maria, Thank you so much for that! I feel like I had a bit of a revelation when I read about Etegami in Zendictive and Fergiemoto’s blogs. I feel like it opened up a window when I was beginning to experience a creative block.
Tim
Wonderful sketch, and I love the sentiment as well. 🙂
Hi Linda, Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate that!
Tim
I love this Tim. I love the sentiment too. The leaf reminds me of Fall. And it makes me think about how some things just get better with age. Have a great day.
Hi Laurie, Thanks for that thought. Getting better with age is something to strive for.
Tim
Awesome! Thanks for the reference, again! I like seeing the different styles people are creating for their etegami and just art in general. I think it’s great to apply your own twist – it keeps the art interesting and evolving! Who knows where technology will take this traditional brush art form.
Hi Fergiemoto, I need to read more about Etegami. I know I’m not using the proper technique, but I’ve always been about doing things my own way anyway. I just can’t help it. I’m so glad you saw this post!
Tim
Hi Tim! I am loving your blog and check it out every day! Your artwork is always great (no surprise there) but I also really love what you write.
Say hi to George for me.
Hi Cindy, It’s great to get a comment from you! Putting work out in public is an interesting experience. I’ll say hi to George for you.
