Yesterday, I learned that being spontaneous doesn’t require rushing through a drawing or a piece of writing. Speeding up the process through scribbling or stream of consciousness writing can be a way to get started, but it doesn’t mean you can’t slow the process down for the sake of taking a little more control.
The speed limit I had set for my professional work is extremely slow, and it seemed to be getting slower and slower every week, because it is becoming more and more detailed. This blog is a way of breaking away from that trend and opening up my imagination to new possibilities and techniques.
I’m finding that I am in control of the speed at which I work. The process can be sped up or slowed down at any point. I believe the trick is in being conscious of it and deliberately choosing a speed that feels comfortable at every moment.
How true! Spontaneous just means unplanned. I don’t think it matters if it is fast or slow. I love your flower today!! 🙂
It’s funny how I can have some kind of preconception stuck in my head, and it can be a challenge to move beyond that. I was thinking spontaneous meant I had to work very fast without thinking, but there are so many different speeds at which to work. Glad you like the flower, I think I might focus on flowers for a few days and try to see how far I can stretch my imagination in creating them.

I whole-heartedly agree. Creativity should never be rushed! (Great artwork, btw)
Thanks for letting me know you agree. It’s nice to know when the concepts are striking a chord!

Absolutely! I think this is one of my favorites so far! Thanks so much for sharing every day!
I finally cut into my Blossomwood papers! I used them to alter a birdhouse. It’s posted on my blog if you ever want to take a peek! Really love those papers Tim! 🙂
Hi Nancy, Glad to hear you cut into the Blossomwood papers! Thanks for the link to your blog, I love to see how everyone uses the papers with all the interpretations and ways of combining the designs to make them so personal. Thanks for sharing!

I agree. Sometimes when I work too fast, I go through a sort of burnout where I don’t want to even look at what I’ve written; it’s just too much. When I create at a slower pace, I find I avoid that. I’m also learning I have a tendency to become more creative, I guess because the ideas have time to gather before they fire up my synapses.
Hi Amy, I find writing these posts a challenge, because it forces me to let go without laboring too much over anything. I spent three years writing a novel for kids. I must have rewritten every chapter half a dozen times or more by the time I finished it, and it’s still unpublishable. Yet with WordPress I am writing and publishing every day with very little rewriting, and it’s possible the writing I am doing here (as unpolished as it is) is better and connecting with people more than any of the writing in the novel. It’s such a mystery to me.

It’s been very inspiring watching you push your boundaries and constantly challenging yourself – a consistent reminder to myself to do the same. The flower really draws in the viewer and I’m especially loving the line work on your leaves and your typography work. Can’t wait to see what you have for tomorrow (no pressure here! LOL). TFS!
Hi Karen, No pressure at all! Thanks so much for coming back and sharing your thoughts. I’m thrilled these posts are making a connection!

Marvelous insight and beautiful doodle, Tim!
Hi Kathie, Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it!

This is very nice. You know…I get up in the mornings, grab my coffee and boot up the computer, looking forward to what you have to share with us, before I go off and do my daily tasks. Thank you very much. God Bless.
Hi Diana, That’s such a great compliment – and I’m sure you can tell from the name of the blog that’s what I was hoping would happen eventually!
